Week of January 13th Practices: The Lovers – Two of Air – Elder of Water

For Seekers – Practices for Soul & Spirit

Each week I pull cards to inspire contemplative practice. In 2011, I started using the Gaian Tarot as a prompt for practice as its minor cards showed such clear images of people engaged in practices that grounded and connected them to earth, to spirit, to the Whole. The method evolved to use the majors as path cards and the people as posture/attitude cards, and for a couple of years I posted weekly on the Gaian Tarot Circle. You are invited to use the cards below to inspire your practice, and, if you like, share your reflections in the comments. You are also free to draw your own cards.

gaian-loversPATH: Use Pile 1 / Majors and Aces to pull a card for the question: What sacred path would best serve the group this week?  THE LOVERS invites us to walk this week on pathways of …

  • Giving and receiving love.
  • Opening up to love in all its form to support you as look out into the beauty and challenge of the world we live in.
  • Attuning to passion that may come from connection with another or from within.

twoofairPRACTICE: Use Pile 2 / numbered cards for this question: What contemplative practice will best serve us to move along this pathway this week?  TWO OF AIR invites us to practices such as …

  • A meditation where you let your conscious thoughts float away so that you can listen at a deeper level.
  • Vision Divina
  • Listening to the song of birds and letting it guide you into a greater understanding of what is happening in the natural world at this time of year. (In many places – especially New England where I am – you have to listen harder to hear bird songs in the winter of January!)

gaian elder-waterPOSTURE: Use Pile 3 / People cards for a question such as: What attitudes and behaviors will be most helpful to me in undertaking this practice? ELDER OF WATER invites you to follow your path and practices with attitudes of ….

  • Knowing that your personal life flow is held in a larger life flow of the planet so you can let go of trying to control things.
  • An ability to see with awe and wonder the things that you have seen a thousand times before.
  • Friendship and compassion for all the emotions that well up in you as you travel your days.

OVERALL MUSINGS: Each of these cards shows bliss in action; bliss as a pathway to connection; bliss as a fruit of listening internally; bliss as a reward for looking out into the world and recognizing its beauty. Perhaps bliss this week can be the very air we breath. Try that out!
